Objectives
This WP will build capacities necessary to provide a comprehensive and quantitative analysis of the present-day aerosol sources in Belgrade and Bor. A close link to ACTRIS and RI-URBAN via WeBaSOOP’s international partners secures updates on the most recent recommendations for aerosol measurements, chemical analysis, choice of organic tracers, source apportionment and assay for oxidative potential determination. Logistics of this task will be supported from the WP4 Management by the event coordinator.
Existing knowledge and skills of the Serbian WeBaSOOP partners will be strengthened and new skills acquired. In addition to general scientific, research and management skills for scientific and management support staff, they will cover the scientific fields required for WeBaSOOP implementation:
- atmospheric science,
- atmospheric aerosols content and toxicity, including skills and competencies related to black carbon (BC), ultrafine particles (UFP), and source apportionment of atmospheric aerosol,
- knowledge related to European research infrastructures such as ACTRIS, and the Green Deal RI-URBAN project.
Scientific knowledge transfer, training in instrumental operation and in statistical, analytical and acellular methods and assays according to established SOPs, will have a special emphasis on younger researchers.
Training will be both on a one-to-one basis and in small groups and will be conducted via web-based solutions and as short-term visits and staff exchange. Visit to major atmospheric observatories and to laboratory facilities will be part of the training.
Participation in inter-laboratory comparisons (ILC) will be arranged for all variables required for the PMF-based source apportionment.
Training in data and metadata reporting according to templates required by data repositories will be given, ensuring that data are open access and of a quality that enables and attracts use by others.
Description of work
WP1 will develop the necessary research skills and infrastructure basis in Belgrade and Bor and provide capacity for local researchers to undertake the planned measurement campaigns, data QA/QC and management necessary to execute WP2, and to gain broader scientific and management competencies. It will be implemented through a series of field trainings, short-term scientific visits, seminars and webinars.
